Where do you like to read?

Where is your favourite place to read?

Yesterday I told you that I can't remember book titles and today I'll confess that I simply don't do much reading. Well, not unless you include the countless blogs, online instructions for crafts and my daily dose of Guideposts. Really? Yes really! You see, I have this problem staying awake and find reading to be a trigger that tells my brain it's time to fall asleep. Even after I started taking pills for narcolepsy I still can't read much before dozing off. Yes, you can probably imagine how tough college was for me!

When I used to drive 30 minutes a day both ways to work I was able to check out book CDs from the library, so my car became my favorite place to read. Now with only 10 minutes of road time I don't do that anymore. I have, however, discovered podcasts and occasionally take this iPad with me on walks. So springs forth a new way of reading books. If only I could remember which app has The Hunger Games on it before it expires! Is there a search app on this little machine?

So what's YOUR favorite place to read and how do you do it?

Oh, here's a collage of Katie and Libby keeping the bed warm for me last night!

My favorite pet?

The BlogHer NaBloPoMo prompt for today is to discuss our favorite pet. Hmmmmm, I asked myself how in the world this lady who currently resides with eight dogs, seven cats, a guinea pig and two fish tanks could possibly choose just one. Well, quite honestly, I can't! So let me just recap for you the canines that call my house a home.

Before my dissertation about the living, let me pay homage to our first two dogs, Charmin and Tucker. They each have their own blogs, so please go with Kleenex in hand to read all about them.

The elder of the clan is Charlie. My husband and daughter rescued him when he was found as a young puppy wandering the streets near their school. He's a stubborn old fool who kind of reminds me of my dad, thick around the middle, kind of arthritic with scabs on his skin and probably partially deaf and blind. He's a gentle soul with the dedication of a soldier who makes my heart melt with those big brown eyes.

Katie the Border Collie was the next young lady to join the pack. She was also a rescued dog, only this time my daughter saw her at the mall when the Humane Society was there with dogs ready for adoption. When we first got her she had kennel cough and was on the rag... Yes I mean that literally because we tied some rags to her and held them on with some old underwear to keep her from leaving a trail wherever she went. Katie also has a blog, so you can read more about her there

Libby is our adopted Golden Retriever Collie mix. She reminds us of Charmin and has a heart of gold. She loves hanging out with my husband and thinks she is the mother to all the other animals.

Harley was a surprise gift from my husband and daughter after Tucker left us for a pain-free world. He's a Wire Hair Fox Terrier who I nicknamed Devil Dog because he used to tackle Charlie and pierce his ears.

My four grands are Buddy, Daisy, Sugar and Alvin. We're still getting used to each other now that they've moved in with us, but all of them are a permanent part of my life and each in their own way have won my heart.

Monday,Monday, so good to me

Silly song just keeps floating around in my head with pictures of those four singers, especially Mama Cass in that short dress! Today is Monday, Day 5 of the NaBloPoMo challenge to write a blog post every day during the month of November. The blog prompt for today's post is: "What are your thoughts about tomorrow's election in the United States?" Well to be quite honest I hope whoever wins does what is right for our country, because no matter what they say during all those millions of dollars worth of ads we've all be nauseated by over the past few months, if they are controlled simply by what the deep pockets and party lines tell them to do, we're in trouble.

Believe it or not I used to really get involved in politics, or at least in radical advocacy work on my own time while trying to play the good state government employee serving as a Legislative Liaison who wasn't allowed to lobby or say anything contrary to the current administration. Talk about migraines! Yeah, after I figured out that it wasn't just the aspartame  MSG and chocolate that brought them on and finally gave in to the fact that my job and the internal conflicts it was causing might actually be a big contributing factor I gave up all the nasties and have rarely experienced one since. Well admittedly I haven't completely given up chocolate, but have learned that, unlike the stressful job, consuming it in small increments is ok.

So what does all that have to do with my thoughts about tomorrow's election? Quite honestly, even though I still vote and I know that only one vote really CAN make a difference, I just can't get overly excited or worried about who wins or loses because you know what? Life will go on!

Bottom line with me is that I'm more concerned about the upcoming baby shower I'm throwing for my daughter on Saturday than I am about the election. There you have it! Here she is with our empathetic Border Collie, Katie. Our Golden Retriever has also gotten in to the habit of patting Emily's belly. Guess they're making sure Oliver is okay. I love it!

June's Take 12 Page for Ella Publishing

This is what a typical June day looks like around our yard and garden. There's Mike throwing the ball for Katie who in turn hides it between her front legs. There's Harley jumping around like Wire Fox Terriers do. Charlie lazily hanging around hoping Harley won't eat him up for dinner. Oh and the pears are ripening quickly! Eegads there must be a gazillion of them on that little tree!!!
