Sweets and sweetness on Saturday

Today has been one of the most relaxing days I've had in a long time. I've had lots of sweetness time with precious Oliver. (No those aren't my hairy arms silly!)

Add to that kitchen stuff, like baking these awesome pistachio cranberry cookies that I found at one of my favorite food bloggers Erin

Hers were green, so you've got to hop over to her blog to see how pretty and festive these can be. I used a generic pudding mix and wonder if it didn't have as much color to it. What I can tell you for certain is that they are yummy! See that empty spot on the lower cooling rack? Yup, that's evidence that the Cookie Monster stopped by for a chat.

I also made some fascinating and absolutely delicious healthy chocolate avocado pudding from Green Plate Rules. No pictures of that, but she put hers in some really cute shot glasses, so you've got to see them!

Oliver 12-12-12

I just can't get enough of this precious little bundle of love! It has been an awesome first week watching him grow and witnessing the wonderful parenting our daughter and son-in-law are doing!

My grandson has arrived!

Now the REAL fun begins as we venture forth on this new exciting journey of grandparenthood! Oliver decided to come a few weeks early, but both mom and baby are doing great! My daughter and son-in-law were absolute rock stars throughout the whole process from the time her water broke at 2:15 am to first contraction at 11:30 am to final delivery at 5:15 pm. Short, sweet and to the point just like his mother! The women at the birthing center were awesome angels, providing calm loving support that was very uplifting.

I can't find the words to express how much love I have for Oliver already and how proud I am of Emily for being such a champion during childbirth and Matt for being so supportive as her partner in childbirth!

What has been the hardest part about blogging daily?


Doing anything other than personal hygiene on a daily basis is just not my style and even the hygiene has taken a back seat to some much needed down time on occasion. I have found out that I function better when allowed to fail, or at least when allowed to not follow a rigid structure. My ideal vacation would be one that has a starting and ending point with some "must see" spots in-between, unlimited budget (in my dreams!), no set time frame and done in a comfortable vehicle with a killer sound system. The closest I've come to that is a side trip to Colorado at the tail end of a business trip to Western Kansas. I must say that my 91 Bonneville did have one of the best sound systems of any car I've ever had and was very comfortable. Ok, so I digress.......

It's been tough for me to remember to blog every day and I've had to back-date one or two posts. I'm more of the "blog when I feel like it" sort of people. That's why I've not pursued any design teams or gotten super committed to weekly challenges. I guess some folks thrive on the competition or love the challenge, but I find my life to be far less stressful when I allow myself the flexibility of controlling my leisure time by not having to abide by deadlines. Heaven knows I've got enough of those at work! Yeah, I never could keep a paper journal or diary either. I found at least four spiral or hardback journals with only one or two entries in them, including some that I started when my daughter was born.

So what causes this lackadaisical attitude? Is it my CADD (Crafters Attention Deficit Disorder), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), sensory overloaded or maybe none of the above? Maybe it's perfectly normal and all of you who religiously blog every day are really the odd ones! Maybe you have an unnatural need to achieve this lofty goal, or perhaps you actually make money blogging... Yes, THAT must be it!!! So when I grow up and retire maybe I'll start blogging every day too and maybe someone will pay me to do it! Sounds like a plan to me!

Honestly I can't tell you when I began reading these three blogs, but have thoroughly enjoyed them over the past year.

First is Simply Modern Mom who will treat you to recipes and other home ideas that will simply delight you.

Next is Erin Cooks, another great foodie blog full of great stuff.

Then there's Sweet Paper Treats where Karen continues to amaze me with her talent as a card and scrapbook creator. Now she's even designing stamps for Market Street Stamps!

Tell us about the worst trip you ever took.

It would have to be the return trip from my husband's grandmother's funeral years ago. He didn't realize that he was allowed to take funeral leave, so I drove across western Kansas in a blizzard. Talk about white knuckle driving! If it weren't for the awesome 1969 Buick Wildcat that I was driving we never would have made it. If I say "PFHULLLUMP" and tell you that we plowed through 3 to 4 foot or higher snow drifts while maneuvering around the cars and 18-wheelers that were going off the road around us or were already in the ditch would that muster up a clear picture? Around these parts they call it a ground blizzard because the snow had already fallen, but the wind caused fresh drifting and white-out conditions. It's only 206 miles, but felt like 2006 and took about ten times longer. Well I got him back home safe and sound and I'm sure his employer was impressed with his commitment to work, but I'll never drive in those conditions again!

Oh yeah, we still have that old Buick in the garage. Betsy has seen her better days, but we have plans to get her fixed up and drive her in parades one of these days!
